Credit Guide and privacy

Zafar gives every client their own Credit Guide, generated for them by Mortgage Australia Group's system. You receive it as soon as practicable after it becomes apparent that Zafar is likely to help you with a loan. This page explains what that guide covers.

The law requires a Credit Guide at that point. A credit representative gives you their own guide and their licensee's.[1] Your guide covers both Zafar and Mortgage Australia Group.

Who provides the service

Credit assistance is provided by Zafar Karim (registered with ASIC as Mohamed Zafar Karim), Credit Representative No. 581277. Zafar is authorised by Mortgage Australia Group Pty Ltd, ABN 99 091 941 749, Australian Credit Licence 377294. Mortgage Australia Group shares responsibility for how Zafar acts. How to check this on ASIC's register.

Your best interests come first

As a mortgage broker, Zafar must act in your best interests. If his interests conflict with yours, he must put yours first.[1] What the best interests duty requires.

What your Credit Guide covers

Checking a loan is not unsuitable

Before Zafar suggests a loan, he must make reasonable inquiries about your needs, goals and finances. He must also take reasonable steps to verify your finances. He then assesses whether the loan would be unsuitable for you.[1]

Mortgage Australia Group's standard terms: the assessment is valid for 90 days. You can ask for a copy for up to 7 years after Zafar helps you.

Fees and charges

Zafar does not charge you a fee for his help. Mortgage Australia Group's standard terms: if a fee were payable to the licensee, it would first be set out in a credit quote. No credit quote means no fee from us.

Mortgage Australia Group's standard terms: when your application is lodged, the lender may charge its own fees, such as application or valuation fees. Some may be payable even if the loan does not go ahead.

These points are Mortgage Australia Group's standard terms, paraphrased from its Credit Guide template.

When Zafar suggests a particular loan, you also receive a credit proposal disclosure document. It estimates the commission on that loan.[1] How mortgage brokers get paid explains upfront and trail commission and clawbacks.

Complaints and dispute resolution

Talk to Zafar first. If it is not resolved within 5 working days, Mortgage Australia Group's Complaints Officer takes it over. You get a written response no later than 30 calendar days after the complaint is received.[2] If you are still not satisfied, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) can consider your complaint at no cost to you. Contact details for both are in how to make a complaint.

Things you should know

Our lender panel

Zafar can arrange loans from the lenders on Mortgage Australia Group's panel. He does not have access to every lender in the market. The lenders a broker uses most often vary by broker and change over time. Your Credit Guide lists them, so they are not published here.

Privacy

Your personal information is handled under Mortgage Australia Group's privacy policy (PDF). Our collection notice explains what our enquiry form collects and who handles it.
